Lived at 1619 Lawson Ave, in Knoxville, TN from birth until 1961 when the family moved to Lebanon, TN. Lived at 202 Harding Dr until the family moved back to the same home on Lawson Ave in 1962. Moved to 410 Kemper Dr in Madison, TN in 1963. This was a wonderful time for Vikki, as I recall. Moved back to Knoxville to Pinehurst Dr in 1964 and then to Sunset Hills in Morristown in 1965. The family later moved to Arrow Hills in Morristown where they remained until Vikki's senior year in high school. As a senior Vikki moved to Cahttanooga for the first part of the year and then went back to Morristown for the final grading period so she could graduate in Morristown. It was very important to her.
I list these specifics here only to illustrate the many changes in Vikki's formative years that contributed to her becoming the person she became. Always intense, somewhat precocious as a child, Vikki had to make her presence known in each of the schools she attended as a young child. As in everything she did, she undoubtedly made her presence known by all. I recall so many things in each of these places where Vikki was the center of attention. When she started school she was so small, I think around 36 inches tall and in the 30 something pound range, that the school wanted my parents to wait a year before enrolling her. Not agreeing to that, Vikki was enrolled in the first grade at only 5 years. She turned 6 in November of that year.
Although she was by far the smallest person in the school, she commanded the most attention from everyone. I was known by many as the brother to "that little blonde girl, you know the one in the first grade who seems to be everywhere." Each time we moved I had trouble making new friends, but Vikki had no such problem. Even though I was the older, Vikki made sure I was included in anything and everything that was going on.
From those earliest years, until I left home to attend college, Vikki always put me first, even when I was, as most older siblings are at times, cruel to her. She covered for me to keep me out of trouble. She saved her money, while I spent mine and then gave me hers when I had no more. Vikki lived her life this way. Even in the end, she did not want me to know how sick she was. She didn't want me to be upset. How can anyone be so unselfish? How could anyone be Vikki? There will never be another like her. G_d broke the mold when he made Vikki and he has taken her home to admire his work. I am thankful I had the good fortune to be loved by her. |

After graduating from college, Vikki understood the importance of making wise moves financially. As a young single woman, Vikki applied for and received a low interest government secured loan to purchase and restore an old home in one of the more mature sections of north Knoxville. Vikki enlisted the help of her many friends and a few relatives with construction experience to make many improvements to this house. She hosted a huge holiday dinner at Christmas time in her home in 1980, I believe. The entire family was there and her party was a smashing success. Vikki took a great deal of pride in what she had accomplished and was truly radiant that day. |

Realizing the opportunities for advancement in her career were limited in Knoxville, Vikki asked for and was granted a transfer to Nashville, where South Central Bell then had a wide range of opportunity within the state headquarters. She sold her home for a tidy profit and purchased a condo in Nashville. This proved to be the most fortuitous decision she ever made. For it was there, in the Nashville condo complex that Vikki met Jay. Anyone who is reading these words would certainly agree, If ever a man loved a woman. Jay loved Vikki. For the remainder of her time on this earth, Jay treated Vikki as wonderfully as any man could treat his wife, right up until her last breath. |
